In Today’S World, There Are So Many Racial Things Still

In today’s world, there are so many racial things still happening. Whites hating blacks, blacks hating white, everybody hating somebody. We’re so quick to not like someone because of how they look, or their religion, or how they feel about certain things. We’re always so fast to judge someone for their race, sex, size anything. A lot of the times, we choose hate over love. We choose violence over peace and we never take a second to step back and take into consideration we’re the problem with the world. Especially whenever it come to racial discrimination. Whenever anything happens, were always so quick to blame it on the color or ethnicity of the person, instead of the motives of why it happened. Malcolm X, in his 1964 speech, The Ballot of the Bullet, called for all black Americans to put aside their differences and take on problems with a concrete front. He felt that the black men should put aside his religion, group affiliation differences to solve their common problem. Ta-Nehisi Coates, in the book Between the World and Me, seems to imply the problem the black men face in fighting his battle today. They were wanting to live their lives like white people, causing them to lose touch with their own heritage. Ta-Nehisi Coates and Malcolm X both claim that the white man is the source of the oppression and racial discrimination against the black race. They both would lead one to believe that I.D. is limited only to the black race, but in doing research for this paper I found that Native Americans born in the United States was not granted citizenship by congress until June 2, 1924, whereas African American were granted citizenship in 1868 (www.americanlibrary.gov). Discriminatio n has not been limited to just the black race, March 2012 former President Barack Obama talked about the discrimination that the Irish Americans faced in the 19th Century, when he ushered in Irish American Heritage Month in March (www.thoughtco.com).
